Environmental Design Project
Entertainment dining experience based on Lewis Carrolls Alice's Adventures In Wonderland and Alice's AdventuresThrough the Looking Class. The environment will give a sense of visiting wonderland while offering a new dining and entertainment facility emphasizing the diversionary escapism of the novels. The concept is some where between theme restaurant and funhouse, utilizing imagery based in San Franciscan Victorian Architecture, Art Nouveau interior design and Tenniels original illustrations from the book.

Alices Restaurant is an environmental design project for a theme restaurant based on Lewis Carrolls books Alices Adventures in Wonderland and Alices Adventures through the Looking Glass. Researching for this project began with investigating several existing theme restaurants. I wanted the environment to be a grown up funhouse, an idea that had originally occurred to me as an alternative to average everyday bar and night club environments. My research included theme parks, and carnival and amusement park funhouses. I realized by researching Disney's architecture that nearly anything I could imagine can be built.
Alice in Wonderland often goes hand in hand with 1960s psychedelia. When I began to investigate the art work commonly related to the 1960s San Francisco music scene I realized that much of the work is heavily influenced by Art Nouveau style in poster design. I also investigated art nouveau architecture, industrial design (furniture) and interior design.
I developed this concept for Alices Restaurant by integrating themes from the books with art nouveau architectural details and San Francisco Victorian architecture. The Victorian period just so happens to coincide with the period when Lewis Carroll actually wrote the novels.
